Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
